Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels is a much harder version of the original Super Mario Bros.. It was originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, but the game was considered too difficult for Western audiences, and was replaced by a modified version of Doki Doki Panic. It wasn't released overseas until it was bundled with the other three games in Super Mario All-Stars.

Changes from prequel[]

  • Luigi has different movement than Mario: He can jump higher but slides along blocks more easily.
  • A poisonous Mushroom was added, which can power down or knock out Mario.
  • Red Piranha plants are added starting at World 4-1.
  • New Fake Bowsers are added, which appear Aqua-coloured rather than green.
  • Super Springs were added.
  • A secret world 9 was added.
