Altered Beast is a Beat 'em up game released for the arcade, and ported to many home computers and consoles. It was manufacturered by Sega, and the primary developer Makoto Uchida later helped write the game Golden Axe.
Gameplay[]
Altered Beast uses an auto-scrolling screen, which moves slowly as enemies appear on-screen. Players are required to collect three powerups before transforming into a beast-like form and challenge the end-level boss. Players are given a health bar which depletes as they are injured by enemy attacks. They can also be instantly killed by falling into pits.
Story[]
After being slain in battle, Zeus resurrects two roman centurions to assist in rescuing his daughter, Athena, from the demon Neff. The player needs to fight various undead and demonic enemies, while collecting spirit orbs to gain supernatural strength, eventually ending in a powerful animal form.
Versions[]
- The Commodore 64 version ommitted the full-screen transitions to beast form.
